Oh for the love of sleep!
I wrote this draft about three weeks ago, and in my sleep deprived state forgot to post it...
We had a run in with the dreaded lurgy.
As is usual with little people, our Bean has had himself an ear and throat infection... and my greatest wish at the moment is a whole night's sleep. I don't mind the usual interuptions at around 11, but it's the 2 and 3 am trips to the kitchen to give temperature meds that are zombifying me. That, and the stress of having a small person who feels like lava have had me worrying around the clock... and I can be a real worrier.
All I want is for my little Oompah Loompah to get better. I hate to see those little eyes ringed with red. And it is truly incredibly frustrating to have a crying infant at 11pm who cannot tell you what is wrong... and I'm not partial to guessing games.
Daddy brought up a good point, on our way to the doctor yesterday that we need to treat the cause, not the symptoms and that treating the symptoms is a common way of treating illness. With little people this can be very frustrating as they can't tell you what is wrong so it meant us taking multiple visits to the doctor to try to find out what the cause of the problem was.
The good news is that our Bean is better again. In the process cut another tooth so he now has 5 teeth, and is trying them out on everything he can. He has taken a particular liking to rusks and cardboard. We are enouraging the former as opposed to the cardboard.
Even better news is that we had a bit more sleep and are functioning at almost human level again.
Bean has been particulary cute lateley as he is learning to stick his tongue out. And I'm loving it! While we will of course discourage it when he's a tad older, for now I try to get him to do it as often as he will. He's just too sweet.
