Farewell 2018...

Already a few months in to 2019, I found this post and realised that I never published it.

Looking back on 2018, all I can really remember is how hard it has been.

It has been tough and there is a lot of uncertainty. With the South African economy heading steadily downhill, we've realised how hard it is to manage financially as a family even when both parents are bringing in an income. And yet, here we are. We've somehow made it through, and I think we may have to tighten our belts once again to face 2019. I know it sounds pessimistic but I think I'm being more of a realist. But I think we can do it. I'm not sure how, but I'm sure we will somehow manage.

We seem to find things to do that cost very little, if anything at all... like gardening, friends to visit, and family walks in the park or the beach. Looking back, these were the things we did when I was a child so perhaps, in some ways, things haven't changed so much.

With everything so difficult, I am reminded that we have had many blessings this year as well... the moments and memories what we have shared.

The big boys have worked hard and done well in school. Working hard on their karate, Number 1 has graded up to green belt and Number 2 earned his next stripe... which I just realised that I still need to sew on. They both seem to be demonstrating more maturity. But I suppose that comes with age

Bean has learned new words, how to walk, and is mastering the art of the tantrum. He has also learned how to use all those new teeth he has sprouted. Usually on someone's arm.

Daddy has taken up walking the Bean on a daily basis... At Bean's insistence, they don their shoes and stroll in a leisurely fashion around the block, testing how well the neighbourhood gates rattle and searching for sticks, leaves and the odd flower. Bean has also learned where to find the chips at the local corner shop, and proudly shares his discovery with the rest of us.
